AI Charting - Getting Started
AI Charting (add-on): $0.59 per note, plus unlimited free edits.
Is the time you get back for each note worth the cost? This question can only be answered by you!
Important
The AI charting button only appears on two chart note types:
- The Progress Note (HIPAA)
- The Narrative Note (Simple)
The SOAP Note template stays unchanged. You can still generate a SOAP style note with AI charting easily, it's just one of the many templates you pick after the session.
Avoid recording and transcription hangups. Is your log out timeout set to 60 minutes or less? Extend it as an owner or manager under security settings.
Click on any of the sections below to expand the content:
person In person Chart during or right after an in office session. expand_more
Access your chart note as you normally would:
- From the Calendar, click on the appointment
- Click the top right button, Start Charting
- Scroll down to the Notes section and on the right, click Create AI Note
Next you'll see an audio input option to pick from any available system microphones. Make sure you see the mic respond, and use the dropdown if you need a different source.
If we can't detect input, everything shows up blank. We don't charge for a note that wasn't generated. Review this anytime under our AI Note usage report.
On the next screen, keep In-Person selected and click Start Recording. The session begins immediately. Click Stop Recording to pause or end it.
We'll then generate your chart note automatically from the transcription and your chart type selection. This isn't a transcription service, AI charting compiles a full note from the audio. Feel free to step away and come back once it's ready.
Chart note templates
Pick your note type and click Generate Note, then make further edits below. Once generated, you'll see something like this:
Review and finalize your note
At the top right you can switch chart note type at any point (default is SOAP). At the bottom right you have four options:
- Edit (free, unlimited): type your request in the text box and click Edit to regenerate. Try things like "make this more concise" or "add more session quotes." Editing never costs extra.
- Replace Notes: once you're satisfied, this adds the note and overwrites anything else already entered in this section. You can still edit it afterward in the notes section, just not with the AI edit box.
- Add To Notes: appends the output to any existing notes instead of replacing them.
- Discard: throws away the generated note. You're still charged for the generation.
Want a treatment plan too? Review your note, click Continue, then check Create/Include Treatment Plan before Finalize & Lock. More in our treatment plan templates article.
videocam Built in telehealth Record straight from our integrated telehealth sessions. expand_more
Not to be confused with Zoom, the section below this: The quickest path here is to join the telehealth session and just record. We'll automatically generate an AI chart note draft for you to review when you go to chart. You can record audio only if you prefer.
Transcripts are never retained or used for training by our AI partner. Audio/video recordings are held securely by our telehealth partner for 6 months and can't be removed early. Using this route? Update your Consent for use of AI Notes form.
Telehealth session
OBegin the session. Once joined, click Record (bottom right), or More first on a smaller screen. End the session when done and go to the chart note.
AI chart note
After the session ends, the AI drafts a chart note. Pick a template and make unlimited free edits before inserting it.
Finish your chart note
Once inserted into the editor, carefully review for accuracy, then make granular edits wherever needed.
Join telehealth and record
- Within 15 minutes of the appointment, go to your dashboard or calendar and click the appointment (clients can also join from their dashboard)
- In the pop up, click Start Session, then Start Session again, allowing audio and video permissions
- Once in session, click the bottom Record button. We really only need audio/transcript, but video works too if you want it for review
- Begin your session as usual, and quit telehealth when finished
Charting
- Return to charting from the Calendar, click the appointment, then Start Charting
- Scroll to Notes and click Create AI Note, then pick your template and generate
From here, reviewing, editing, and saving your note works exactly like the section above: Edit is free, Replace Notes or Add To Notes finalizes it, and Discard throws it away (still charged). Treatment plans work the same way too, via our treatment plan templates article.
video_call Zoom (telehealth) Generate a note from a Zoom telehealth session. expand_more
Using headphones? Only Google Chrome is supported for recording sessions this way.
Start telehealth
Begin the session (opens a new tab). Back in the calendar, open the appointment's charting, open AI charting, select telehealth and your headphone setup, share Zoom's audio with the tab, then hit Record.
Record via AI
After the session, the AI drafts a chart note in your selected template, ready for further edits.
Make your edits
Once inserted into the charting screen, review and make smaller edits as usual.
Using headphones? Browser support
Chrome
Once you select headphones, you'll be prompted to share a tab, window, or app. Select Window, choose Zoom, and confirm sound is included.
Safari
Our AI partner recommends Chrome instead. Safari isn't supported for recording sessions with headphones.
Firefox
Same here, Chrome is recommended instead of Firefox for headphone recording support.
Steps
- Within 15 minutes of the appointment, open it from your dashboard or calendar and click Start Session, then Start Session again
- From the Calendar, open the appointment and click Start Charting, then Create AI Note under Notes
- Select Telehealth, allow microphone and camera access, then choose and test your microphone (watch for the live mic indicator) and click Next
- Select whether you're using headphones. Without headphones, click Start Recording right away. With headphones, share your telehealth tab, enable Share audio, click Allow, then Start Recording
- Return to your telehealth tab and run the session. Use Stop Recording to pause, and Stop Recording then End Session when you're done
Reviewing, editing, and saving the note works exactly like the In person section above.
open_in_new Outside telehealth solution Using a telehealth platform we don't integrate with directly. expand_more
If you're not using one of our integrated solutions, you just need our AI tool listening to both voices during the session.
Start telehealth
In our system, open the appointment's charting, open AI charting, select your configuration of "in person", click Record, then open your telehealth program.
Record via AI
After recording, the AI drafts a chart note in your selected template, ready for unlimited free edits.
Make your edits
Once inserted into the charting screen, review and make smaller edits as needed.
Use the In person configuration if your microphone can also pick up their voice (like with speakers).
We'd recommend one of our two integrated telehealth solutions instead when possible: Zoom telehealth (requires a Zoom license) or integrated telehealth.

Blank chart note after a long session
In very long sessions, or with unexpected connectivity issues, you may return to charting and see a blank note with two buttons instead of the usual Start / Stop Recording.
Good news, we haven't lost your progress. Here's what each button does.
View AI Note
Brings you back to the note you were working on. Use Edit as many times as you need, still free.
Create AI Note
Starts a brand new note and resets all current progress. Use this to restart the process entirely.
Common causes: a sign-out from inactivity per your security settings, an internet connection issue, or the note was already generated and inserted.
Blank AI note
If you record a session and the note comes back with blank section headers, the session simply wasn't recorded, usually the wrong audio input, or one that wasn't transmitting. Test your audio source with a practice session before your next appointment.
We never charge for a note that wasn't generated. Review this anytime under our AI Note usage report.
